6 to 9 years of age
The mind of the elementary student is primed for discovering relationships. Students of this age desire to understand the connections between: mind and matter; language and civilization; science and art; ecology and citizenship; feelings and friendships. The “Cosmic Curriculum” of the Montessori elementary program is designed to help students piece together the puzzle of life on earth.
Elementary children find their school work enthralling. Using advanced versions of the interactive materials found in the Children’s House, the students assume the role of scientific researchers. Timelines representing the formation of the universe, our solar system and planets, plant and animal life, and the development of humankind stretch thirty feet across the classroom. These timelines, stories, and lessons provide meaningful context for students’ work on academic skills.
Our students tend to progress rapidly in academic areas. They are required to complete daily exercises in mathematics, reading, and writing. They compose and illustrate beautiful history journals which reflect their growing understanding about the development of cultures and civilization.
